ALBUM REVIEWS

“So beautiful! That is the Maluba Orchestra...this is a wonderful group of musicians”. -

 – Iggy Pop, Iggy Confidential, BBC Radio 6, UK, Dec 2019

"It’s quite possible that you won’t like everything you hear, at least to begin with, but there’s so much variety, such a range of moods and textures in this music, that it’ll charm you in the end..Over the course of three years, this Danish ensemble has evolved an idiom all of its own, in which improvisation and composition live happily together. It can switch from wild freedom to disciplined accuracy in an instant and generate a fiery rhythmic drive...Not only is it exciting and full of surprises, it also amounts to a technical tour de force by all concerned."
★★★★☆

 - Dave Gelly The Guardian, UK, Nov 2019

"colourfully orchestrated, vibrant debut...Unlike so many attempts at contemporary genre-bridging, Maluba Orchestra's versality enhances rather than inhibit cohesion and, hence, meaning."

★★★★
- Selwyn Harris, Jazzwise, UK, Feb 2020

“...To listen to this album is to take an interesting walk along a cool, north beach, discovering beautiful pebbles and rounded glass on the way   – each one unique and surprisingly different from the last”

 - Maddy Shaw, Jazzviews.net, UK, Feb 2020

“There’s something swinging in Denmark, as this disc attests...This is pregnant-with-portent-themed music full of subtle dramatic tension.. .it’s delightfully disorienting...Maluba Orchestra is stimulating and fascinating but also inconsistent and one gets the feeling its makers wouldn’t have it any other way."

 - Mark Keresman New York City Jazz Record , US, Feb 2020.

"The music is an absolute brilliant display of what European Orchestral Jazz is all about. It combines perfectly the entire kaleidoscope of Jazz sub-genres, from Swing to Free, and offers complex but coherent compositions, superb arrangements and of course sublime execution by the orchestra members...Each and every one of the composition is a true gem, and the entire album offers a diverse, stylistically and more importantly aesthetically perfect equilibrium of sensitivity and good taste, which characterizes European Jazz at its best."
 - Adam Baruch The Sound Track of My Life, ISR, Jan 2020.

["... The fact that an extremely homogeneous world of sound emerges, speaks for the class of the thirteen musicians."]

 - Werner Stiefele, Rondo Magazin, DE, Sep 2019

[“A really rich and varied album with exciting music. The Maluba Orchestra has the sonority of a big band and the freshness of a young small group.]

17 (=Sehr empfehlenswert)
[“the result is very varied and fresh, very personal and you should really treat yourself to this experience in sound...a listening adventure of the first order full of creative energy,”]

[“...The sound variety - from noise to more traditional band sounds in impressive horn sections and a brilliant rhythm section - grabs the listener from the start”]

 – Jazz ́n ́More, CH, Nov 2019

[“... The album is a varied course of musical inspirations, superbly played by the great Danish jazz orchestra”]

 – Concerto, AT, Oct 2019

[“A really interesting band, who has found it's own way alongside the traditional big band format...Do we dare to hope for a Swedish tour in the future?"]

 – Rasmus Klockljung Lira, SE, Nov 2019

[“First of all, we can establish that it swings like hell...All in all, in many ways a magical ensemble”]

[“Maluba Orchestra is easy to love, when you're the kind of jazz fan, that appreciates new original and challenging compositions that make the musicians really shine...Highly recommended by this blog”]

[“... The performance is rich in variety - from meditative tracks to complexity, melodic simplicity, big arrangements - to explosive ignition]

 – Jazz Special, DK, Nov 2019

[“... Here everyone is equal, and we get a comprehensive record, where the compositions are in focus, more than the individual soloists"]

LIVE REVIEWS

Live at Aarhus Jazzfestival, 2018

 - Lars Borup, Jazzfest.dk, Jul 2018

Live at Copenhagen Jazzfestival, 2018

Live at Copenhagen Jazzfestival, 2017
